Town Stages announces a Contemporary Pilates Mat Class led by Jamila Youngstedt on Mondays at 8:30am at Town Stages, 221 West Broadway, NYC. Registration is $20 and can be completed at bit.ly/pilatestown. Pre-registration is required.
 
Pilates is a system of controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the body. A blend of strength and flexibility training improves posture, reduces stress, and creates long, lean muscles. This class is a blend of Pilates and other somatic practices designed to make you feel and look longer, stronger, and more in tune with your body. #MovewithJam on Monday mornings to start your week off feeling wonderful!
 
Jamila Youngstedt is an Equinox-certified Pilates Mat instructor through Pilates Mat Alliance and a Certified GYROTONIC® Trainer. She is also the Co-director and choreographer of Tactile Movement Collective, a Sokoloff Arts Fellow at Town Stages, and a freelance dance and Cyr Wheel artist. 
 
Jamila currently teaches GYROTONIC® and Pilates Mat at Village Gyrotonic in NYC. She has also taught at Bluming Studio and Spaceworks NYC.
 
Company/performance credits include: Tactile Movement Collective (recently presented at The Tank NYC & Gowanus Ballroom), ZviDance (current apprentice), Loren Royse & Co.("Spun" at Jacob's Pillow), Kinetic Architecture Dance Theatre, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Shelter Repertory Dance Theatre; work by Merce Cunningham, William Forsythe, Iyun Harrison, Patricia Hon, Robert Moses, Christian Burns, Alex Ketley. Training highlights: Interlochen Arts Academy, Mark Morris Dance Group, Royal Danish Ballet, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She holds a B.F.A. in Dance (Magna Cum Laude) from Cornish College of the Arts.
