Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 60th Anniversary celebration in Newark launches on Saturday, April 6th with Ailey Day at NJPAC & Military Park.  The series of exhilarating free public events features Prudential Presents Alvin Ailey’s Revelations Celebration (RSVP required) and previews Ailey’s NJPAC engagement Friday, May 10 – Sunday, May 12.

From 8:30am - 12:30pm at NJPAC, Alvin Ailey Community Dance Workshops will give local dancers the chance to learn new moves in Hip-Hop, Horton and more from Ailey Teaching Artists.

From 1-4pm in Military Park, Prudential Presents Alvin Ailey’s Revelations Celebration will joyously bring together all ages and backgrounds to learn and perform excerpts from Alvin Ailey’s American masterpiece – acclaimed as a must-see for all. Made possible by the generous support of Prudential Financial, the public workshop is led by former Ailey star Nasha Thomas and features live music from a gospel choir and percussionist, and a participatory art project. NJPAC will also be offering a 20% discount on any Ailey performance tickets purchased on April 6!  Ailey’s milestone season in Newark will feature 3 dazzling performances that open on Friday, May 10th with the New Jersey premiere of Hip-Hop innovator Rennie Harris’ powerful two-act ballet Lazarus, and close on Sunday, May 12th with a Mother’s Day Timeless Ailey program highlighting 3 decades of treasures by Alvin Ailey.
