About F R I C T I O N (new work)

FRICTION is a collaboration between Sidra Bell Dance New York, Juilliard trained electronic composer and clarinetist Alexey Gorokholinsky and lighting designer/creative director Amith Chandrashaker. The work navigates resistance, violence, desensitization, and counter culture. We will look at the current trajectory of despair and dystopia that permeates our relationship to other bodies. The idea of friction in the physicality, space, and music was prompted by a personal navigation of disconnection, loneliness, and aimlessness. It will deal with finding roots and anchoring oneself in tumultuousness. There is a poetic structure steeped in imagery and sensation. The work lives in a state of recalibration not necessarily ever finding a center or stasis. Through entry points (movement, sound, light, décor) we will create an atmosphere that embraces instability and counter activity.

About garment (2014)

garment is a playful jaunt that attempts to rescue the individual by constructing a world that navigates popular zeitgeists. Conceived through materials the work exercises small performance ceremonies to observe identity, appropriation, transfiguration, nonsense, influence, authorship, and reformation. You'll be remembered...
