Sailer is a dancer/choreographer and visual artist. The intent of her work is to evoke dream-like narratives through abstract, spatially-oriented forms. Sailer’s dance work is based in the Erick Hawkins Technique and is strongly influenced by her training with Nancy Meehan with whose company she performed in 1984 and 1985. Her work is also informed by improvisation and her painting practice which has its roots in Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. Annie Sailer has performed and presented her choreography for the past thirty years. Annie Sailer Dance Company (New York) was formed in 2001.
