Every month, Dances Made to Order features three talented artists who each rise to the challenge to create a five-minute film in two weeks inspired by ideas suggested by the web-audience. Dances Made to Order partners with local artists and arts organizations in 11 different U.S. cities who in turn each select three artists to highlight their city’s unique dance culture. Now in the tenth month of the 2012 season, ODC Theater has curated local dance artists Michelle Fletcher, Claudia Anata Hubiak and Rajendra Serber for the San Francisco Edition. Dance enthusiasts may vote on the ideas that will inspire the artists’ work from August 22 through August 30 at midnight. The San Francisco edition films will premiere on September 19, 2012. Dances Made to Order was created by Kingsley Irons and Bryan Koch in April 2011. “We support the work of emerging artists with unique points of view. The choreographers we feature in our series come from diverse backgrounds: from contemporary, modern, hip-hop, Afro-Latin, belly dance and classical Indonesian. We offer a curated, online film program as an alternative to the deluge of un-curated video content on the internet. We recognize that the way audiences consume media is changing. We want dance film to have a place in the changing media landscape by presenting it through a forum that is unfettered by the constraints of geography, time and distance.” How Dances Made To Order works: Internet browsers may subscribe to the entire season of this innovative online showcase of American dance film for only $50 and get 33 short films plus bonus content throughout the year. A season subscription includes access to all films from January through November 2012. A single, monthly ticket is $10 and includes 3 films. Artists get 65% of each ticket sold. About the Artists: Rajendra Serber About the Curator: . Michelle Fletcher lives in San Francisco, participating in the art community as a choreographer, director, student, teacher, writer and founded Here Now Dance Collective in 2008. Fletcher is recognized for her multi-media, dance-theater work that often explores themes personal to "the human experience" with her company (HNDC). Fletcher has received awards including The Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant and The MJDL CHIME Grant. Fletcher received her BFA from North Carolina School of the Arts and her MFA from Florida State University. www.herenowdancecollective.com Anata Hubiak is originally from Boulder, Colorado where she was raised with a Buddhist background and a love of the arts. She holds a BFA from the University of California at Santa Barbara and an MFA from Tisch at NYU where she performed the works of Kay Cummings, Gus Solomons Jr., Patricia Hoffbauer and Trisha Brown (Floor of the Forest, The Whitney Museum). Claudia was a co-founder of Vispo Dance (2005-2009) and founded The Anata Project in January of 2011. www.theanataproject.org as born in San Franciso and has been presenting choreography for stage and screen in his hometown and internationally for the past 16 years. As a director and performer his work has been nominated for multiple Isadora Duncan Awards and a Lester Horton Dance Award. His last dance film was supported by EMPAC DANCE MOViES COMMISSION and the San Francisco Film Society. As a performer he has had the privilege of collaborating with many wonderful artists including Scott Wells, a recent Russian tour with Sara Shelton Mann, and an Australian tour with The Residents. ODC Theater participates in the creation of new works through commissioning, presenting, mentorship and space access; it develops informed, engaged and committed audiences; and it advocates for the performing arts as an essential component to the region’s economic and cultural development.
