Kinikia, the artistic director and founder of DC Hippodrome, is an experienced
performer and dancer and has been studying all styles of performance for over 20
years. Her dance repertoire includes raks sharqi (belly dance), tribal fusion belly
dance, hoop dancing, fire spinning, authentic Polynesian dance training and
performance, aerial arts training, gymnastics as well as traditional American dance
forms such as tap, jazz and ballet.
Kinikia has the honor of previously performing with the Silk Road Dance Company, a
central Asian, folkoric and Middle Eastern company in DC, Synetic Theatre, based on
Georgian style movement in DC, the Caravan Stage, a Canadian traveling theater and
dance company coined as "Cirque du Soleil" on water, as well as having worked with
numerous respected artists throughout the country. She was also on board as the
lead dancer of Ohana of Polynesia Inc for the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and helped
open their company with dance choreography, costumes, premier performances and
dance business, in 2009 co-directed the then 501c organization.
Kinikia dreamt about pulling together a group that would encompass all of the
movements she has studied and loved throughout the years and utilizing the
networks of so many talented professional artists in the area. She wanted to offer DC,
VA, MD and surrounding areas a chance to experience the spectacular sensations of
live entertainment seen similarly to the shows in Las Vegas, New York or Los
Angeles. Her hopes are that DC Hippodrome will help DC turn into a mecca for
dance entertainment and cultural arts accessible to the every day person residing in
the Mid-Atlantic region.
