Hello From Japan! Daily Programs
Manga Maker Space
Tuesday through Friday, join us in the Manga Maker Space for daily drop-in programs! Explore kawaii fashion, make sushi, design toys and illustrate your own comic books. Each week we explore different projects inspired by the exhibit Hello from Japan!

Kamishibai Storytelling

International Women’s Festival and Holi Celebration
The Children’s Museum celebrates equality, empowerment and talent during this year’s International Women’s Day. In this weekend long festival meet designers, chefs, and performers to explore world culture and tradition. Our partners from The Culture Tree will help you experience this years Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors on Saturday, March 3.
Book Reading for Holi the Festival of Colors
Learn about the historic significance and origins of Holi, how it is celebrated in India and all over the world. Anu Sehgal will read familiar children’s stories about this colorful festival.

Designer Shaazma Husain helps you create cards that represent this beautiful and colorful festival. Create your own Holi cards with the rich and vibrant colors using spray painting technique.

Dance Workshop and Performance
In this dance workshop and performance, Apoorva Sastry will teach some key mudras or dance gestures, followed by a Bharatanatyam performance. Bharatanatyam is a major genre of Indian classical dance.

Meet the Authors: The Ladoo Books

Musical Performance Johanna Castaneda
Enjoy a musical performance from Johanna Castaneda—singer and cuatro (four stringed guitar-like instrument) player specializing in Musica Llanera, the music of the Plainsmen (Cowboys) of Colombia.

Hinamatsuri Toy Factory
Celebrate child innovation and ingenuity at the Children’s Museum as we explore, Hinamatsuri or the Japanese Doll Festival. Hinamatsuri is traditionally celebrated in March and marks a special time to give thanks for the health and development of girls—insuring their health, well-being and success.
Hinamatsuri Toy Sculptures
Create a toy sculpture inspired by the different doll designs celebrated during the Japanese Doll Festival Hinamatsuri. Explore designs like the paper hitogata doll, the wooden kokeshi doll and the clay hina-asobi doll.
