American Dance Festival Presents: Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre & Provincial Dances Theatre
Tatiana Baganova and Rosie Herrera
American Dance Festival (ADF) supports the creation and presentation of new modern dance work by both established and emerging choreographers. At The Joyce, ADF presents works by contemporary choreographers Tatiana Baganova and Rosie Herrera. Opening the week, Provincial Dances Theatre from Yekaterinburg, Russia makes its New York debut with a program featuring Baganova’s Sepia, a work capturing the atmosphere of Kobo Abe’s book, Woman in the Dunes; and the compelling and mysterious Maple Garden that is part fairy tale, part grim dream. For the final three performances of the week, Herrera presents a program that includes her breakout piece, Various Stages of Drowning: A Cabaret, which uses dance, theater, cabaret, and underwater film to create dream states using water as a metaphor for the unconscious.
