Intermediate Jazz Master Class with ArVejon Jones on October 9
Robert Moses' Kin
ArVejon’s Jazz class is based in dynamic musicality, embracing his ancestral language in African dance as well as current secular movement. Having an extensive background in Tap and Hip Hop, he values dance that provokes joy and thought. That being said, ArVejon values contemporary dance and ballet languages as devices to codify movement and muscular conditioning. He will challenge dancers in aspects of foot work, weight shifts, technical accuracy, musicality, and performance in hopes to cultivate an appreciation for the American art form of Jazz dance.
ArVejon Jones is originally from Los Angeles, CA. As an alum of San Francisco State University, ArVejon has worked with RMK, Sean Dorsey Dance, PUSH Dance, Copious Dance Theater, Prometheus Dance, Jean Appolon Dance, and has been a Student Apprentice and Guest Artist for ODC Dance/SF, among others. He has toured nationally and internationally as a performer. In his teaching career, ArVejon has taught for many after school programs, including the Boston Ballet as a Lead Teaching Artist for their “Education and Outreach Initiative”. He has taught at LINES/ SF Dance Center, Shawl-Anderson, and HEAT Dance Line. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Advanced Jazz at SFSU.
