de Young Museum premieres “When We Gather” black box version | Wednesday, February 24 (FREE)
de Young Museum
The When We Gather film and the behind-the-scenes special program, When We Gather: Together, have been viewed by approximately 7,000 people to date. We are just starting to roll out screenings across the country.
The black box version of the film will screen in museums and universities, arts nonprofits, schools, and community organizations across the United States. This slightly longer version features more performative elements and the original, compelling soundscape written, composed, and performed by LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs, with sonic sounds performed by Lisa E. Harris and Samita Sinha.
The de Young Museum will premiere the black box version on February 24, 2021, 5pm PST / 8pm EST. In honor of Black History Month and as part of their Virtual Wednesday’s programming, the de Young Museum will host a special conversation and Q+A session with lead artist, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Executive Producer and gallerist, Wendi Norris, and the de Young’s inaugural curator of African art, Natasha Becker.
To learn more about the event, visit the When We Gather event page, or de Young Museum’s Virtual Wednesdays programs page.
No registration required. It’s a free online event. Watch on YouTube here.
