The Intimate Series
December 4th & 5th, 2015. 8PM
Williamsburg Movement and Arts Center. 347 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY.
The Moving Beauty Series in partnership with Williamsburg Movement and Williamsburg Movement & Arts Center is accepting choreographic submissions for The Intimate Series, a low tech concert dance lab.
Directed by Lakey Evans-Peña and Juan Michael Porter II, this new concert series serves as a professional incubator space for incredible choreographers in which to show up to 15 minutes of their work, receive studio support, and engage with audiences in new ways. There are no application or production fees associated with The Intimate Series.
For those interested in seeing how The Intimate Series looks, our October concert will be showing on October 23rd and 24th, 2015. For more information, click HERE.
A highlight of The Intimate Series is that each dance company selected to participate will receive:
2 performance dates
Promotional support
1 hour of spacing time
Video documentation
Consultant work with our staff (all at no cost)
Written Audience Feedback
Discounted Rehearsal Space. $5 an hour on weekdays from 10 AM - 2 PM and weekends.
AND the potential to receive The Moving Beauty Series Solo Commission
OR a private dedicated Concert Salon showing.
Performance space at WMAAC is 20 feet wide by 40 feet deep. The floor is marley covered sprung wood.
Please note that this is a low technical capacity theatre. Our focus is on the brilliance of the dancing in a stripped down setting, while delivering audience feedback and professional nurturing. There will be a large waiting/dressing room provided for performers of selected companies. This waiting/dressing room is large enough to comfortably sit 60 performers. We will have abundant staff on had (stage manager, director, and production assistants) to ensure a smooth concert experience.
Past Choreographers presented by The Intimate Series include: Joe Monteleone, Winnie Berger, Marcus Jarrell Willis, Jen Roit, Vernard Gilmore, Patrick Coker, and Janice Rosario.
About The Moving Beauty Series.
The Moving Beauty Series was founded by Juan Michael Porter II in 2008 after he returned from modeling in France. He created this production series because he did not think that it was right to ask dancers to pay for their work to be shown. His mission is to present artistically provocative yet commercially viable work.
