New York, NY September 5th, 2013Sarah Council Dance Projects (SCDP) premieres Deep Water, an evening of dance presented by Gowanus Arts + Production, Oct. 24th, 8:00 pm at the Green Building in Brooklyn. SCDP will also hold a free works-in-progress studio showing of sections of Deep Water, Sept. 21st, 4:00 pm at Green Space in Long Island City.

Creating emotionally driven works that are multi-layered and articulate, Sarah Council Dance Projects premieres Deep Water, an evening of dance that includes expansions of SCDP works; Shadowlands and Staring at Stones

Shadowlands, a piece for five women, exposes the world of human trafficking and modern day slavery, while Staring at Stones, a trio for three women, takes a closer look at Council’s southern roots by exploring the culture of the Appalachian Mountains. These two works, though very different, share a common thread by unearthing the experiences of the women found in areas and situations that are often hidden from public view.  Inspired by the stories of these women, Deep Water focuses on themes of poverty, exploitation, gender and survival. Deep Water contains original scores created by Brooklyn based Greg Heffernan and Kentucky based Carla Gover and Anna-Roberts Gevalt.

The performance will take place at The Green Building, October 24th at 8:00 pm.
Tickets are 5 at the door or online at www.brownpapertickets.com
The Green Building is located at 452 Union Street, Brooklyn NY 11231

A free works-in-progress studio showing and discussion will take place on Sept. 21st from 4-5:30 at Green Space.
