Announcing Fall 2013 at Danspace Project!

Fall brings premieres by emerging and mid-career choreographers, special one-night-only events, production residencies for new work this fall and beyond, and much more! 

Sarah Skaggs, Melanie Maar, and Patricia Hoffbauer each return with new choreographic investigations. Emerging choreographic voices Rebecca Davis, taisha paggett, Rashaun Mitchell & Silas Riener, Cori Olinghouse and Megan Kendzior present new work citing choreographic sources like Zumba, lost movement histories, GIFs, the formation of taste, and the triggers of rebellion. We've invited Katy Pyle and The Ballez Company back for a reprisal of last spring's sold-out run of The Firebird with a special party to benefit the Ballez Company and Danspace Project. Performance artists Clifford Owens & Legacy Russell choreograph a single kiss, and French choreographer Noé Soulier presents a performance-lecture in collaboration with Performa 13. Okwui Okpokwasili will be in-residence this fall in preparation for her new evening-length work to premiere at Danspace in January 2014. And the incomparable Ishmael Houston-Jones returns to curate two new editions of our popular DraftWork series.

It all begins September 28th with the next chapter of our Conversations Without Walls: Reflections on Walking and Dancing Across the Rubble, a discussion revisiting curatorial strategies including Ralph Lemon's dance series at MoMA.

What were we up to this summer? We continued our collaborations with Wesleyan University's Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance (ICPP) -- where Danspace staff visited in July -- and the New York State DanceForce. We sent Souleymane Badolo on two intensive residencies to Wesleyan and Mount Tremper Arts....And in July,  two of our recently commissioned emerging choreographers, Darrell Jones and Joanna Kotze received Bessie Awards! Many people are curious if we will continue with the Platforms. The answer is yes! Our next Platform in spring, 2014 will be a "one person" exhibition... read a letter from Judy Hussie-Taylor.
