Dear Dancers and Families of Dancers,
We are very excited about the growth and success of the Wednesday classes we are offering in the Modern Dance style of Isadora Duncan at the McBurney YMCA, and so is the Y. They are honoring me with a YMCA of Greater NY Service Award in 2014!
What are these classes all about?
Particularly for children, but the principles apply to the teen/adult class as well, these classes are rooted in the style of Isadora Duncan, where the dancing begins. The class offers the technical basics of dancing, with exuberant runs, skips, and leaps, along with graceful musical expression. Spirited dancers learn to move through space with joy and abandon. Students develop the listening skills necessary to understand nuances in musical dynamic variation. For instance, they learn the difference between the downbeat in a march, and the upbeat of a euphoric skip!
The schedule will continue with weekly sessions through June. For those who stick with it, you will be invited to join in a end-of-year showing at the Y in the large gymnasium. Save the date: June 20th at 5:30 p.m. This is a casual but fun affair with all of McBurney Y's dance classes offering a taste of their programs.
The 2014 class cycles are as follows:
Winter I: Wednesdays, January 8 - February 12
Winter II: Wednesdays, February 26 - April 9
Spring: Wednesdays, April 30 - June 18
Additionally, check our class calendar HERE for this and other Duncan class offerings. Registration for next session is now open for members and opens Sunday for non-members. Please register at your earliest convenience, HERE or in person at the Y so we can avoid last minute rushes.
