New York Theatre Ballet celebrated its 30th Anniversary season with the premiere of Dance/Speak: The Life of Agnes de Mille a dance/drama, telling the story of choreographer Agnes de Mille’s struggle for success in the American theatre. Through the use of narration, dramatic interpretation and actual de Mille dances, the work reveals Miss de Mille’s childhood influences, early attempts as a solo artist, and her eventual success as the ground-breaking theatrical innovator known throughout the world for her choreography during the golden age of musical theatre, as well as her incalculable contribution to ballet.

Dance/Speak: The Life of Agnes de Mille will include dances from Oklahoma!, Carousel, Brigadoon as well as Fall River Legend, Three Virgins and a Devil, Rodeo, and Debut at the Opera. The script is written by Anderson Ferrell, novelist and director of The de Mille Working Group. It was staged by Gemze de Lappe and Liza Gennaro. The production was a first for New York Theatre Ballet as the company extends beyond its usual repertory of small classic masterworks.

NYTB will perform Dance/Speak: The Life of Agnes de Mille throughout the country.
