5 years ago, Casa Flamenca moved into the modest abode in the Historic District of Old Town, Albuqeurque which is now recognized by its Flamenco murals and the oasis of a garden that surrounds the building. In this quaint building, Casa Flamenca began to expand on its traditional Flamenco Summer Tablaos. Being the first idea of it’s kind in Albuquerque, it has stayed true to the raw intimacy of a traditional Tablao with no more than 40 seats available in the venue. There is no bad seat in the venue. With this feature, it was a major attraction to the Urban Enhancement Trust Fund who seeks out projects that align with their mission of enhancing the urban landscape of Alubquerque.
“The audience is literally a part of the performance,” says Muñoz. People sit only an arms-length away from the performers. The performance is completely acoustic with no amplification. Only natural sound permeates the ears of the audience. There’s really nothing like it in Albuquerque. The feeling one gets as literally being a part of the show is as if they helped create the show. Which, in fact they do.
The Casa Flamenca Summer tablao regularly features a cuartet, with room for an additional visiting or touring artist. Friday through Sunday. The resident artists this season are from Andalucia, Spain. Tickets are available at CasaFlamenca.org or by phone.
