On the heels of their Evenings of Dance in Port Chester and a performance at the Music Hall in Tarrytown, the dancers of Ballet des Amériques return to the Emelin Theatre in June for two matinees featuring the company’s ever-evolving repertoire, including an expanded version of Lentil Soup.

The professional company’s program will be introduced by a presentation of the next generation of dancers, the talented students of the ballet conservatory, who will dance Jeux d’enfants or Children’s Games – a set of twelve miniatures composed by Georges Bizet – in an original choreography by Carole Alexis.

Lentil Soup is an exploration of our human hunger and quest for spiritual nourishment. A series of Africa-inspired dances to the music of diverse artists suggests how our hunger is satisfied in various ways in communion with nature, with animals, plants, the earth and fire, with each other in religious and secular communities, and indeed around the dinner table where we share a common meal.

Performances are on Saturday, June 16, and on Sunday, June 17, at 3pm. Tickets are $25, $40 and $50, and seating is assigned. Tickets are available online at http://emelin.org, at the Emelin Theatre’s box office at 153 Library Lane, Mamaroneck, NY 10543, or by calling 914-698-0098.

Established in 2011 under the directorship of French-American choreographer Carole Alexis, Ballet des Amériques, as its name implies, inserts itself into the French cultural heritage of the Americas. Composed of classically trained dancers of diverse backgrounds, the young company has already danced the choreography of Carole Alexis in over 50 public performances beginning with its debut at the Festival de Fort-de-France in Martinique in 2011. As the resident dance company of the Tarrytown Music Hall, Ballet des Amériques is building on the success of its Evenings of Dance series to develop a regional dance audience in Westchester and neighboring counties. With its local roots and international orientation, the company is poised to grow its audiences beyond dance connoisseurs to reach those who have never been exposed to this art and especially young people, in conscious fulfillment of the educational function of dance in the spirit of Maurice Béjart.
