Dance on the Lawn Festival 2015

The second annual Dance on the Lawn Dance Festival featuring NJ Dance companies Maurice Chestnut’s “Dance Therapy,” Randy James “10 Hairy Legs” and Donna Scro’s “Freespace Dance” will return on Saturday, September 12 to the lawn of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Montclair, NJ, 4:30-6:30pm. Over ten dance companies and schools will be featured in the afternoon program, including New York’s “Janis Brenner & Dancers,” a new work by Troy Powell (Ailey II - Artistic Director), and “BHdos: The Second Company of Ballet Hispanico.” Dance on the Lawn is a free, public outdoor event. (Full festival line up below.)

Dance on the Lawn was established to increase New Jersey’s exposure to dance by bringing professional and emerging companies, plus students of dance from around the state, together to perform in a community setting. In addition to offering presentation opportunities, Dance on the Lawn has created an Emerging Commissioned New Jersey Choreographer and mentor program to help support young, emerging artists. Dance on the Lawn's first Emerging New Jersey Choreographer Robert Mark Burke will be presenting new work at this year’s Festival.

“Many artists who appeared at Dance on the Lawn’s premiere last September will return for Festival ’15. We also welcome for the first time New Jersey’s ‘Ballet Forte’ and as well as NYC companies ‘Janis Brenner & Dancers’ and ‘BHdos: The Second Company of Ballet Hispanico,’” said Charmaine Warren, Founder and Artistic Director of Dance on the Lawn. “We hope this year’s Festival will continue to build momentum for our yearly presentation - more dancers, more dance companies, more excitement – we are proud to bring local and New York area dance to New Jersey in a free, outdoor public forum,” she said.

Dance NJ, the service organization committed to advocating the excellence of dance and dance education in the state, has this July presented Charmaine Warren with their JETÉ AWARD, in honor of founding the Dance on the Lawn Festival.
