Wendell Gray II and Jonah Bokaer, a double Set Dance Performance

Wendell Gray

Wendell Gray is a dance artist and choreographer from Atlanta, GA and based in Brooklyn. He received his early training at DanceMakers of Atlanta and attended Dekalb School of the Arts. In 2015, he earned his BFA in Dance from University of the Arts under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. He has received additional training from San Francisco Conservatory of Dance and Springboard Danse Montreal. He has performed in works choreographed by William Forsythe, Netta Yerushalmy, Sharon Eyal, and Helen Simoneau. He is the recipient of the 2015 Pennsylvania Ballet Choreography Award.  He was an Artist in Residence at Chez Bushwick in the summer of 2017 and has choreographed works for Pennsylvania Ballet II, Philadanco II, and Periapsis Music and Dance. Wendell is currently a dancer and collaborating artist with Jonah Bokaer Choreography (2016-Present), Christal Brown, J. Bouey, Esther Baker-Tarpaga, and Phoebe Berglund.

 

Jonah Bokaer

Born to Tunisian and American parents in Ithaca, NY, Jonah Bokaer is a choreographer and media artist.  His work, which integrates choreography with digital media, is often the result of his cross-disciplinary collaborations with artists and architects. Creating choreography for museum spaces since 2002, Bokaer has performed at The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, P.S.1 MoMA, The New Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. He has worked closely with performing arts curators for programs at The Asia Society | Texas Center (2012), Le Carré d’Art à Nîmes, IVAM Valencia, Kunsthalle St. Gallen, and MUDAM Luxembourg, among others. In 2008-2009 Bokaer became the first dance artist to be appointed a Young Leader of the French American Foundation, in acknowledgment of his efforts to develop Chez Bushwick, and CPR - Center for Performance Research, two independent arts centers which nurture young artists in New York City and internationally. Bokaer has collaborated with artists including Charles Renfro (present), Daniel Arsham (2007-2016), Anne Carson, Merce Cunningham, Robert Gober, Anthony McCall,Tino Sehgal, Robert Wilson (2007-present), and Lee Ufan (Guggenheim Retrospective, 2011).
