Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition

The 9th annual Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition returns to Symphony Space with "Preserving the Past, Discovering the Future: 250 exceptional dancers from 20 countries around the world, in both classical and contemporary styles, dancing for company contracts and scholarships to international dance academies, including the Vaganova School in St. Petersburg and the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. 

Great Bolshoi star Andris Liepa will once again chair the Jury, which will include Nikolai Tsiskaridze (Russia), Charles Jude (France), Paul McRae (USA), Patricia Aulestia de Alba (Mexico) and others.  The dancers choose their competition repertory from a long list supplied by VKIBC, including dances from Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and other classics, along with such rarely seen dances as Fairy Doll variation by Legat, Laurencia variation by Chabukiani, La Vivandiere by Saint-Leon, and more.  The mandatory classical variations are from Serge Lifar's suite en Blanc - two variations for men and two for women.  Jurist Charles Jude, former etoile with the Paris Opera Ballet, coach dancers in the Lifar style.
