Amy Meisner
Amy Meisner (aka Meisner-Threet) was born & raised in NYC. She started dancing at three years old and studying ballet by age four in both Brooklyn and Queens. She attended The New York High School of Performing Arts graduating in 1977.After highschool she received a scholarship to The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts briefly, and was invited to join The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center Workshop where she was part of Mr. Ailey's inaugural cast of "MEMORIA".
She danced with Clive Thompson, Bertram Ross, AL Perryman & Henry Yu. Meisner finished her BA thru Empire State College with life experience credits. Performing as an actress/dancer in stage, film and musical theater she is a member of SAG AFTRA & AEA professional unions. She eventually pursued a Masters in Social Work (MSW) at Hunter College.
In 1997, Meisner was diagnosed with Chronic Progressive Primary Multiple Sclerosis and began to write for the disability and Arts community. She has been published in the Equity Newsletter, Backstage, Abilities.com, Delaware and Huson Canvas, New Mobility, & Momentum and The Dance Enthusiast. Having been a wheelchair user since 2004, she currently performs & choreographs with Heidi Latsky Dance, a company of both disabled and non-disabled performers. In 2020-2021 NYPL Jerome Robbins Division, archived as moderator for Zoom Webinars for The Oral History Project, with Keith Lee as subject.
