Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and Music From The Sole, a NYC-based tap dance & live music company directed by Leonardo Sandoval and Gregory Richardson, are accepting applications for a paid Sound Engineer Apprenticeship. A key goal of this program is to open doors for emerging BIPOC tech professionals to gain valuable experience in mixing audio for live percussive dance and music, as well as general production functions.

In addition to working with Music From The Sole on residencies in February and March, the apprentice will have the opportunity to join the Jacob’s Pillow festival in Becket, MA (June - August), working with some of the most exciting dance companies performing today, on a wide range of dance styles. The apprentice will receive hands-on training in close collaboration with Jacob’s Pillow Director of Technical Production, Vinny Vigilante, and Sound Designer Christopher Marc.

Candidates will work alongside the company as they develop their new work, "I Didn't Come to Stay" which will be premiered as part of the Guggenheim’s Works & Process on April 11th and then tour across the US and abroad over the next few years, including at Jacob’s Pillow’s 2022 Summer Festival.

Following the apprenticeship, Music From The Sole aims to hire the candidate for future performances as an Audio Engineer and Production Assistant, and advocate for this person within their networks of dance and music professionals/potential employers.

We are committed to building a more diverse dance community and to ensuring all labor is compensated. BIPOC candidates are especially welcome to apply, and preference will be given to NYC/tri-state area-based candidates.
