The Outlet Dance Project is an annual festival of artists sharing their vision through site-specific dance and film at Grounds For Sculpture – an internationally renowned contemporary sculpture park. In its 18th year, the festival champions the work of women and people of marginalized genders. It is one of the largest, most popular, and well-attended dance festivals in New Jersey. The festival celebrates the intersections of visual and moving arts, exploring relationships between sculpture and dance, between place and movement.

Film Submission Deadline: Sep. 25, 2022

Rules & Terms

We seek short dance-films that not only show excellence in this genre, but also have connections to site-specificity, architecture, and/or sculpture as well. For 2022, we are particularly interested in screen-dance exploring environment, climate change (and all that entails), earth, clay, mud, soil, ceramics, etc. We are interested in how site-specific films can be connected through those themes with two exhibits at Grounds For Sculpture: Fragile: Earth by The Color Network, which frames artists’ reflections on social, environmental, and individual perceptions of fragility through the unique materiality of clay and ceramics and The Village Potter by Roberto Lugo.

The festival is open to filmmakers and choreographers everywhere who identify as women or a marginalized gender. We strongly encourage the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and Disabled community to apply.

Proposed films should not exceed 15 minutes in length. If your film is selected, you must provide a downloadable high-resolution file (1080p) for the final line up upon selection.

You may submit one film proposal per application fee. You are welcome to submit more than one application.

Whether or not your film is selected, you are entitled to a complimentary ticket for the film festival evening event as part of your application fee.
