The 50th Annual Dance on Camera Festival (February 11 – 13, 2022), presented by Dance Films Association and the Film at Lincoln Center, has opened its call for submissions for dance films of all genres and lengths beginning on September 1, 2021.
Dance on Camera remains the longest-running dance film festival in the world, providing a platform for choreographic storytelling and creative expression, and intimate access to innovative media artists and their cinematic works. Each year in New York City, the festival presents feature-length documentary and narrative films, inventive short films, filmmaker panels and special events, cutting edge media and art installations, as well as engaging community and student programs. Inaugurated in 1971, Dance Films Association and the Film at Lincoln Center have co-presented the festival since 1996, hosting screenings and special events at the state-of-the-art Walter Reade Theater and the cutting-edge Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
Dance on Camera Festival serves the interests and needs of filmmakers, choreographers, and dancers by:
• Connecting artists with knowledgeable audiences through workshops, panel discussions, Q&As, and special programming throughout the four-day Festival
• Inviting press to the Festival, increasing media opportunities for filmmakers
• Hosting receptions and after parties where artists can connect with industry leaders
• Offering Festival filmmakers free admission to screenings, when possible, to enjoy the range of films and programming at Dance on Camera Festival
• Providing additional opportunities to screen filmmakers’ work through programs that have brought Festival films to venues across the United States and numerous countries represented in our lineups such as: Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Cuba, England, France, Hungary, Iceland, India, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey
Dance on Camera Festival welcomes submissions from filmmakers working in all aesthetic disciplines within the dance film genre, including narrative, documentary, animation and experimental. Dance on Camera encourages national and international submissions of films, which uniquely interpret the relationship between dance and film.
Submissions Deadlines and Important Dates:
Fall 2021: Early Bird Submissions open September 1, 2021 (September 1, 2021 - 12AM ET) - September 17, 2021
Regular Submissions: September 18, 2021 - October 8, 2021
Late Submissions: open October 9, 2021. Late deadline is October 29, 2021.

Rules & Terms
SUBMISSIONS
Filmmaker must be authorized to submit this film to Dance on Camera Festival for consideration and must have read, understood, and agreed to all entry requirements. Entrant must be the sole person responsible to make the decision to enter this media material and guarantee that such exhibition will not violate or infringe upon any rights whatsoever (including copyright, trademark, musical or contract right) of any person or entity. Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival and to use all music, images, and content in the entry.
All rights and permissions for any materials contained within the said entry have been granted and filmmaker holds harmless Dance on Camera Festival from any or all disputes or claims that may arise from these rights and permissions granted.
Early Bird Submissions: September 24 - , 2021

Regular submission Period: September 25 - October 15, 2021
• $60 for Shorts: Narrative, Documentary, Animated and Experimental Shorts, Music Videos
• $75 for Features: Narrative and Documentary Features (over 40 minutes)
Late Submission Period: October 16 - November 5, 2021
• $75 for Shorts: Narrative, Documentary, Animated & Experimental Short, Music Videos
• $100 for Features: Narrative and Documentary Features (over 40 minutes)

Dance on Camera Festival cannot waive submission fees.
ENTRY REGULATIONS
The nonrefundable entry fee must be payable in US dollars to DANCE FILMS ASSOCIATION. Entries must be posted online and available for review (POSTMARKED) by the deadline.
When submitting to the festival you are agreeing that, if selected and the invitation accepted, to screen the submitted film during the dates of the festival (February 11-13, 2022). Dance on Camera Festival will not pay any screening fees for presentation of the film during the festival. The only exception would be if there is a negotiated agreement preceding the submission of the film to Dance on Camera Festival.
Dance on Camera Festival reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any project submitted. There is no limit to the number of entries. Entrants are permitted to submit works-in-progress (i.e., without final color correction or sound mixing), but please clearly note works-in-progress in your submission materials.
PRESENTATION WINDOW
By submitting, the entrant acknowledges that the filmmaker has NOT submitted/planned for this film to be publicly screened/presented in the New York City region three months prior to Dance on Camera Festival, February 11-13, 2022 (between November 10, 2021 - February 10, 2022). Please contact festival@dancefilms.org with any questions regarding the Festival presentation window.
PRESS MATERIALS
If selected, Dance on Camera Festival will require certain press materials to include high-resolution production stills, trailers, key art, director bio, and other production and crew notes.
REPRODUCTION AGREEMENT
Submission of an entry gives Dance on Camera Festival and its presenters permission to have excerpts of accepted work, including film trailers, and publicity shots shown in all promotional activities related to the festival.
PRESENTATION FORMAT
The following exhibition formats are eligible for Festival screening: DCP, 35MM, and ProRes 422. Dance on Camera Festival requires a BluRay back-up for feature length films. The Festival will accept ProRes 422 digital files with stereo sound for short films. Dance on Camera Festival can arrange for discounted duplication and re-formatting at a post-house for accepted films.
DANCE ON CAMERA TOURING PROGRAM
If accepted to the Dance on Camera Festival, this film will also be considered for Dance Films Association's Dance on Camera Tour from August 2022 through January 2023. If the film is selected to be part of the Tour, the filmmaker will be contacted by the Festival and/or its presenters and will be provided this option for their film. Films selected for the Dance on Camera Touring Program are not guaranteed screenings.
