The Playground NYC allows dancers to experience various choreographic styles and ideas, engage with a new community of dancers, and gather resourceful information and inspiration from the array of choreographers involved. In turn, established choreographers are paid for their creative investigations, are given free space to explore new movements with professional dancers, and are provided with the opportunity to establish relationships with new dancers and fellow choreographers.

Class Description:
Class is Ching's most favorite place in the world. For Playground NYC we will build two worlds of Physical Meditation and Physical Exploration. Class begins with a continually guided flow motivated by music, community, effort, and instinct. Ching's movement process has been influenced by stage, unusual spaces like rooftops with 500 pounds of soil, and small villages in far away places. Part two is a celebration and exploration of these influences: counts, details, vagueness, narrative, physicality, voice, subtlety, tenderness, vitality, and most importantly a celebration and exploration of YOU.

Bio:
Born in Manila, raised in Los Angeles, and based in Philadelphia Ching Ching Wong credits her early training and connection to dance to her lifelong teacher Alia Harlan Kaneaikala. With a BFA in Dance from University of California Irvine, Ching Ching is the recipient of Princess Grace Award in Dance (2015), was listed in Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch (2017), and is currently represented by Movement Talent Agency.

As a dancer she has worked with companies and artists including Northwest Dance Project, ZviDance, LED, Brendan Duggan, PARA.MAR Dance Theatre, CARLON, Safety Third Productions, YYDC, OddKnock Productions, SALT Contemporary Dance, Heidi Duckler Dance, WHYTEBERG, The Assembly,  Katie Scherman, Joe Kye, Adam Weinert, and Mimi Haddon.

Since 2017, Ching Ching has been assistant and répétiteur for Swiss based choreographer Ihsan Rustem re-staging his work throughout the US and Europe. This has paved the way for her to step into various roles including rehearsal director (LED), Artist in Residence (Heidi Duckler Dance), and stage manager/creative director (Brett Perry).

Ching met Loni Landon and Gregory Dolbashian back in 2010 when she was hired for her first professional dance contract with Northwest Dance Project. Greatly inspired by them then and still in awe of them now, she is grateful for the opportunity to be a guest of their community, The Playground, NYC. How beautiful, circular, and revolving this dance world continues to be.
