Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, 280 Broadway NYC

The Playground NYC allows dancers to experience various choreographic styles and ideas, engage with a new community of dancers, and gather resourceful information and inspiration from the array of choreographers involved. In turn, established choreographers are paid for their creative investigations, are given free space to explore new movement with professional dancers, and are provided with the opportunity to establish relationships with new dancers and fellow choreographers.
Jenn Freeman, Artistic Director of Freemove Dance, is an American choreographer, dancer, and educator based in New York City. Just recently in October 2018, she self- produced and debuted her first evening-length work, ...it's time..., at The Theater at the 14th Street Y. Jenn's choreography has been commissioned by Marymount Manhattan College, Wayne State University, Brigham Young University, and The University of Texas at Austin (nominated for an Austin Critics Table Award). Her works have been presented in NYC at The Reverb Dance Festival, The 14th Street Y Cabaret, and The Young Choreographer’s Festival, and she was a finalist in both Division I and II of the McCallum Theatre Choreography Festival in 2017. Jenn has worked alongside choreographers as an associate in the development of projects and pieces for: Florence and the Machine, Madonna, The X-Factor, Target, The Brit Awards, Cirque du Soleil, The Martha Graham Dance Company, LA Ballet, SYTYCD, and Encores! at NY City Center (The Wild Party). Professionally, Jenn has danced in works by choreographers: Sonya Tayeh (Tayeh Dance, Principal Dancer), Kyle Abraham (Abraham.in.Motion, Founding Member), Larry Keigwin (Keigwin and Co.), Charlotte Boye-Christensen (NOW- ID), Mia Michaels, Brook Notary (The Pulse Project), Mark Swanhart, Danielle Flora, and many others. Jenn is an internationally recognized dance educator. She creates an environment in her classes that inspires and challenges students while allowing for individuality and personal choice. Her thoughtfully structured warm-up and phrase work focus on physicality, strength, efficiency, technique, and clarity, requiring intense focus and a full-body approach, resulting in an enveloping experience. In NYC she has taught at Axis Connect, Peridance, Broadway Dance Center, and is excited to join the Playground family. Graduate NYU TISCH.
