DON QUIXOTE | Grand Ballet NYC Experience
Ajkun Ballet Company – Upper East Side Shows: May 30, 31, 2026

Experience the vibrant energy of Spain in the heart of Manhattan. The professional dancers of Ajkun Ballet Theatre bring the legendary tale of Don Quixote to life in an intimate, high-octane performance designed for today’s audiences. Featuring world-class artistry and coached by the insights of ballet icon Herman Cornejo, this production offers an unparalleled look at the pinnacle of classical dance on the Upper East Side.

The Story, The Score and The Ajkun Edge
Based on Miguel de Cervantes’ timeless masterpiece, Don Quixote follows the gallant knight as he navigates a world of romance, comedy, and soaring leaps. Set to Ludwig Minkus’ iconic, spirited score, the production highlights the technical brilliance of Ajkun Ballet Company—the theater’s professional performing wing renowned for its precision and theatricality.

Unlike traditional static stagings, this production is characterized by cinematic pacing and evocative minimalism. By removing the clutter of heavy, outdated sets, the focus remains entirely on the physical mastery of the dancers, inviting the audience to engage their imagination in a blank-canvas environment that honors the tradition of the Grand Ballet while feeling distinctly modern.

The Vision: The Choreographic Artistry of Chiara Ajkun

At the heart of the production is the distinctive artistic voice of Chiara Ajkun. Renowned for her ability to strip away the artifice of traditional ballet, Ajkun’s choreography focuses on the raw, physical power of the Ajkun Ballet Company’s professional dancers. Her "Less is More" philosophy transforms the stage into a minimalist gallery, where the movement itself is the treasured gem.

By prioritizing evocative, cinematic elements over static, dated decor, Chiara Ajkun creates a high-stakes, relatable experience for modern audiences. The result is a visceral, high-stakes performance where the choreography doesn't just tell a story—it showcases the extreme athletic and expressive capabilities of the human form in its purest state.
