Syvilla Fort was a professional dancer with the Katherine Dunham Company in the 1930s and early 1940s.
She taught and influenced a wide variety of artists, including choreographers Alvin Ailey and José Limón, singer Eartha Kitt and actors Marlon Brando, James Dean, Chita Rivera and James Earl Jones. Includes a live performance reviving Syvilla Fort’s roles, a distinguished panel, and archival footage and photos, plus a movement experience for audience members in the style of Fort.
