Ladie Nshimba, mother of four kids, died on Friday, April 29th from intestinal Malaria in Congo. Her husband had died 4 years ago. The family is trying to recover her body for burial but the hospital will not release the body unless they pay the bills for her treatment at the hospital, where she was ill for three weeks. At the moment, they are keeping her body in the morgue until they receive the payment. They don’t cremate bodies in Lubumbashi, they just bury them.
This event is a benefit for the family of Ladie Nshimb to give her a proper burial.
About the Artists
Kamutshima, a name derived from the Baluba tribe in the the Kasai region of Congo means “little heart”. In our passion for dance, no matter how little your heart is, you can still bring out a lot of good dance.
The award winning Kamutshima dance troupe is like a mini UN with dancers from various parts of the globe. We are a fun dance troupe that performs in plays, dance shows, awards shows, music videos, concerts and social gatherings. In The Kamutshima Dance Troupe you can find a Sierra Leonean dancer, a dancer from Boston Massachusetts, a Japanese dancer, a Nigerian dancer, a Russian-Cameroonian dancer, a Senegalese dancer, a French-Cameroonian dancer, a dancer from Martinique, and a dancer from the DR Congo. Our “little heart” is actually so big that we welcome dancers from any place with a desire and love in their own hearts to dance.
We are blessed to include dancers with various backgrounds from Jazz to ballet. Most of the dancers started their own journeys in dance since their pre-teen ages. As a troupe, our choreographies and performances focus on African traditional dances, Congolese dance, Contemporary dance and Afro-Latin dance. While we mainly perform in New York City, the place you will also find us having fun, we can also be found enthusiastically performing in different festivals and venues across the United States.
What’s distinctive about this dance troupe is the dancers special bonds. We are lucky to have special ties by finding a common passion of dancing while also having vastly different cultures and dance styles. In our free time we enjoy spending time with friends and families, going to other dance performances, concerts, clubbing, and good foods. We truly enjoy celebrating each other’s milestones, simply enjoying life and relaxing.
Our goals are to have fun while dancing with each other and discovering new places and communities to perform in while also supporting women and cultural dancers worldwide. We are always learning, enjoy meeting new people and are blessed to have experienced so many different cultures along our way. We hope you have a lot of fun experiencing our performances as much as we love putting our Kamutshima on stage.
