BROOKLYN, NY Dancewave is proud to announce the return of the KidsCafe Festival Goes toCollege, March 2nd & 3rd, 2013 at the Kumble Theater of Performing Arts at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. KidsCafe Festival Goes toCollege is designed to provide a much needed service to the dance community by introducing interested high school students to college dance options and bringing new dancers into the dance field. The college theme is a twist on Dancewave’s annual Kids Cafe Festival, a popular community event now in its 19th year that invites high school dancers from all over New York City toperform dances created by both student and professional choreographers.

Kids CafeFestival Goes to Collegeis a national festival that reaches a targeted audience of 150-250 high school students with a strong interest in dance and dance programs, as well as approximately 600 dance fans from all over the metropolitan area. It showcases student choreography from top university dance departments, NYC’s premiere high school dance groups, and Dancewave’s four unique pre-professional dance companies: Dancewave Company, Dancewave Company II, Dancewave Company IIIand the Young Movers Ensemble. This year’s Festival also features performances and opening remarks from Festival Host, Jody Oberfelder. Her company (Jody Oberfelder Dance Projects) is known for its expressive, athletic choreography which has been featured at venues all over the world, including the Centre National de la Danse in Paris, Die Werkstatt in Dusseldorf, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Dance New Amsterdam, Jacob’s Pillow, and The Yard in Martha’s Vinyard.
