         "...a refreshing counterpoint to big company ballet.  The works use classical ballet
          unpretentiously to tell stories, seasoned by good music and the appeal of attractive
          dancers."                                                     Michael Popkin, www.danceviewtimes.com

Choreographer Miro Magloire announces the opening performances of his New Chamber Ballet's 2015-16 season in the City Center Studios, September 11 & 12 at 8 PM.   The ensemble of dancers and musicians performs four or five two-night seasons in their home base at City Center, always presenting premieres and repertory works by Magloire and resident choreographer Constantine Baecher.   All works are masterfully accompanied by live music on piano and violin.  Magloire, who began his career as a composer in his native Germany, is known for his musical sophistication and boldness, with works to music by John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Mauricio Kagel (Miro's composition teacher at the Musikhochschule in Cologne), and other composers of very contemporary music, as well as ballets to Mozart, Haydn, Satie, Tchaikovsky, and more.

Magloire will collaborate for the third time with composer Michel Galante for the program's premiere.   Music has been commissioned by the O'Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation.

From the repertory, the company will perform:

In The Cold, a 2014 solo for Holly Curran set to Erik Satie's Danses De Travers from Pieces Froides for piano;

In The Parlour finds three characters engaging in a vivid battle of values pitting strict rules against free spirit, to the strains of the Mozart Violin Sonata in E Minor.

La Mandragore, premiered last June, is named after the scintillating piano music by contemporary French composer Tristan Murail.   The choreographer unleashes two creatures in a duet, alternately friendly and aggressive.

Friction, another June 2015 premiere, is set to music by New York City-based composer and 2015 Guggenheim Fellow Richard Carrick.   As described by Philip Gardner: "The dance draws on motifs of friction from the dancers' feet upon the floor, from the dancers' body contact with one another, and from the application of bow to strings of Doori Na's violin."  (oberon'sgrove, June 2015)

New Chamber Ballet's City Center Studio performances are made possible in part with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.   "Friction" was commissioned through an Artist Residency with the Center for Faith and Work, New York City.

Upcoming events for New Chamber Ballet include an appearance in Lake Tahoe, Ca., October 15-17.
