Sara Porter

Celebrated Canadian dance artist Sara Porter returns to New York to premiere her full-evening work Sara does a Solo at Douglas Dunn's Studio Salon. Hailed "a tour de force" (Karen Bernard, Performance Mix Festival, NYC), "Aesthetic pleasure from beginning to end" (Douglas Dunn), and "Funny, irreverent, soulful…and a magnificent dancer" (Niegel Smith, The Flea), Porter presents her newest multi-disciplinary work that is touring Canada and the US.

After three decades as a dancer and writer, Sara Porter stands at the collision of the two in her multi-disciplinary work Sara does a Solo. A fearless account of what we all face – an aging body and a reflective mind – Porter creates a world where intimacy and pathos, hilarity and beauty co-exist in the physical stories she tells about life as an artist and a parent. Part memoir, part stand-up comedy, part dance performance, Sara does a Solo is unlike anything else. A bold and beautiful account of mid-life.

“Funny, irreverent, soulful … a magnificent dancer. I'm awestruck!"

(Niegel Smith, Director, The Flea Theatre, NYC)

“Porter is smart, funny, and poignant… a tour de force.”

(Karen Bernard, Director, New Dance Alliance/Performance Mix Festival, NYC)

“Exceptionally deft… aesthetic pleasure from beginning to end.”

(Douglas Dunn, Choreographer/Director, Douglas Dunn + Dancers, NYC)
