White Light Festival: SUTRA by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui
Company:
Lincoln Center; Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui
Seventeen warrior monks from China’s Shaolin Temple blend martial arts, Zen Buddhist practice, and contemporary dance in Sutra, an astonishing East-West collaboration from Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Using kung fu prowess and a set of 21 boxes by sculptor Antony Gormley, the monks create a lotus, a temple, a graveyard, and a trapdoor to another world. Sutra returns following its acclaimed, sold-out U.S. premiere at the inaugural White Light Festival in 2010.
