Fly-by-Night Dance Theater announces their 7th NYC Aerial Dance Festival - a show that presents Aerial Dance as Concert Dance in works that push Modern Dance to new heights. The festival continues the company's tradition of supporting and presenting Aerial Dancers and will include works with trapeze, fabric, bungee, harness and span set. This year's festival is expanded to include the boroughs of both Queens and Manhattan. The performance will premiere at the Laguardia Performing Arts Center (Fly-by-Night's new work, Apollo & Dafne, has been partially developed through The LPAC Lab Program). The show will also be presented at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS TO BE PRESENTED:
Fly-by-Night Dance will present the mythical story of Apollo and Dafne with opera music by Handel. The main characters and Dafne's modern doppelganger will reflect the sexual politics of our time through consensual and exploitative duets. ?
Cherie Carson of Upswing Performance Company will present Inside the Circle, a harness duet of mesmerizing choreographic simplicity.
Craig Whitehouse and Megan Cattau from Flight Collaborative will perform a trapeze duet that exemplifies the beauty and skill of aerial partnering.?
Heather Hammond (Heliummm Aerial Dance) and Sarah Wollschlager (Surface to Air Dance) will present their quirky bungee duet, A Window In which explores the stories we make up about others and ourselves.
Chriselle Tidrick of Above and Beyond Dance will perform a silk solo, Absentia which follows a woman’s experience of loss and longing that results in a discovery of her inner strength.
Fly-by-Night's new work, Apollo & Dafne, has been partially developed through
The LPAC Lab Program.
