White Wave Dance Company

Catch the Wave!

The 2014 WAVE RISING SERIES is right around the corner, and we are very excited to be presenting 20 rising and acclaimed national and international companies on the WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater stage in 6 different programs from October 22 to November 9, 2014.

This year, the WAVE RISING SERIES’ companies hail from South Korea, Italy, and from all over the United States. Among the companies presented in the WAVE RISING SERIES (WRS), three rising dancemakers have been awarded our first RISING CHOREOGRAPHERS RESIDENCY PROGRAM (RCRP), which provides the young choreographers with 50 hours of rehearsal/creative time at WHITE WAVE and supports them with a mentoring program as well as two informal showings leading up to our SERIES. Logan Scharadin, a recent SUNY Purchase graduate, seeks to produce new and innovative work involving a boundless variety of art forms and mediums. Kate Ladenheim was named a 2013 Breaking Glass Emerging Female Choreographer, and her work has been praised as “stunning... an interplay of oppositions... pure, unbounded physicality meeting intricate, balletic delicacy” (The Dance Enthusiast). Eve Jacobs is a recent graduate from Juilliard and recipient of the Hector Zaraspe Prize for Choreography.

The SERIES will also feature WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company, who was selected for the 2013/2014 BAM Professional Development Program, with excerpts from the company’s latest piece “Eternal NOW,” which completed a highly successful run at BAM Fisher in June 2014.

October 22 – November 9, 2014

WHITE WAVE hosts and produces its 2014 WAVE RISING SERIES featuring 19 companies / choreographers in 19 performances in its renowned three week festival. Selected by a panel led by WHITE WAVE’s Artistic Director Young Soon Kim, this series furthers our commitment to find, nurture and broaden horizons for extraordinary artists in a program formatted to show their in-depth work. Presenting both rising stars and established world-class companies from New York City and around the world, the WAVE RISING SERIES also functions as a New York City Season for artists who may not have the time or resources to produce a full event on their own.

The Series also features Wednesday Preview Nights during which audiences can enjoy 10-minute snippets of companies appearing that week, followed by drinks, eats, music, and an open studio where anything can happen! All new programs every week!

PREVIEW NIGHT TICKETS: $30 at the door, $25 in advance. Includes performances & reception.
