WHITE WAVE presents the 9th annual WAVE RISING SERIES (WRS), featuring 20 superb dance companies in 21 performances. Selected by a panel of esteemed presenters and dance artists in New York, a talented group of established and rising dancemakers from Italy, Korea, the United States and the NYC Metropolitan area will appear in this year’s SERIES.
The companies are given 30 minutes each on a shared bill, performing three times over the course of the three week festival. Each Wednesday of the Festival (Oct 22, Oct 29, Nov 5) visitors are invited for a Preview Night, showcasing 10-minute excerpts of each week’s featured companies, followed by a Q&A session and a reception that will give guests the chance to mingle with the artists.
WHITE WAVE’s Artistic Director Young Soon Kim founded the WRS in 2006 as a platform for companies who may not have the resources to stage full productions of their works. The WRS is one of the only programs of its kind in New York City, offering rising choreographers the opportunity to present their work on a large scale, often for the first time.
