About Ice Theatre of New York

Founded in 1984 by Moira North, Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) has changed the face of figure skating by creating works that integrate the sensibilities of movement, music and art.  Its mission is to elevate dance on ice as a performance art.   Through its performances in both traditional and site-specific venues, ITNY presents ice dance that opens one's eyes to seeing skating in unexpected ways.  ITNY was the first ice dance company to receive dance program funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.  In addition to building and performing works of artistic merit, ITNY also reaches out to the next generation of skaters and audiences through education, community outreach and training programs.

About Florentine Houdinière, Choreographer

Florentine Houdinière was French Junior champion and international competitor. After turning professional, she was the lead in several Disney On Ice productions, as well Holiday on Ice. In 2001 Houdinière joined Ice Theatre of New York.

Houdinière is currently the cofounder and choreographer of the SKATE UP brand activities. She writes and stages numerous artistic projects and choreographs for skating clubs and competitors in France and abroad. ITNY is currently performing her piece “Hommage”, a heartfelt piece created to honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13th, as well as the many others who have fallen due to acts of violence throughout the world.

ITNY is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. Ice Theatre of New York receives funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Lisa McGraw Figure Skating Foundation, the Pioneer Fund, the Richard T. Button Foundation, the Victor C. & Clara C. Battin Foundation, the Will Sears Fund and its generous private patrons.
