Detroit Dance City Festival
The Gala serves as the culminating event of the Festival and will be held at the world-class Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts.
DDCF Choreographers Showcase
The DDCF Choreographers Showcase features the work of regional and national choreographers from across the country. The showcase will feature hundreds of dancers in works by many different choreographers.
*Artist Exchange Program: In an effort to promote Detroit as an international hub for movement, The Detroit Dance City Festival will be curating an exchange program with and international company (to be determined).
Dance Film Fest
ARTLAB J in partnership with Marcus White/White Werx are curate a Dance Film Festival within the DDCF. The Film Festival will feature works by choreographers and filmmakers who are interested in working at the intersection of film and movement.
Conveniently located at the heart of the Festival, the Community Zone is housed in Detroit’s historical Harmonie Park. The free event features performances by dancers, musicians, and performance artists. Activities such as face-painting and games make this family-friendly event a highlight of the Festival.
Friday Funk Night
Join us for an exciting late night jam session, featuring some of Detroit’s best dance crews. This will be a chance for all interested parties to let go, and get down to great music with fellow dancers and dance supporters. There will be performances from Hip Hop artists and crews throughout the night, as well as plenty of opportunities for free-styling and spontaneous battles.
The Festival offers 20+ workshops by some of the countries most ground breaking educators and choreographers.
“Movers and Shakers” Lunch
ARTLAB J’s Moving with Detroit in partnership with Marcus White/White Werx has created a space for dance industry professionals and audiences to SEE, TAKE, TALK about dance in Metro-Detroit. During the Festival, Moving with Detroit will informational and interactive lunches that will feature artist talks, performances, panel discussions, and guest speakers and Michigan films have been selected from the submission to the Dance Film Fest will be featured each day. The events are FREE and open to all. Lunch is provided for a nominal fee.
