Limon Dance Company and Simon Bolivar National Youth Choir

The Limon Dance Company joins forces with the remarkable Simon Bolivar National Youth Choir - 100 voices from all around Venezuela, here making its U.S. debut - for a performance of Zoltan Kodaly's "Missa Brevis in Tempore Belli" (A Short Mass in Time of War),   The score was created by the Hungarian composer as he hid in a church basement during the siege of Budapest at the End of World War II.  Jose Limon,  following a trip to Europe after the war, was  touched by the courage and spirit of the survivors, and was inspired to create this heroic large-ensemble dance.   "In the ruins," he wrote, "I found a dance."   Act I of the evening will be the Choir in songs by many Venezuelan composers and others.    One performance, September 17 at 8 PM at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.
