Age & Beauty Part 3: DANCER or You can make whatever the fuck you want but you’ll only tour solos or The Powerful People or We are strong/We are powerful/We are beautiful/We are divine or &:’/// is the culminating piece in the Age & Beauty series.

Part 3 opens another landscape of time, where kinetics mix with long passages of waiting to complicate the energetic drive that has usually characterized my work. The ensemble ranges in age from my 8 year old godchild Ezra to my 63 year old artistic “Abuelo” (Spanish for grandfather). We come together in a community of queer kinship. The show ends on a note of ambivalence about performance. This piece takes aesthetic inspiration from two of my favorite movies – Bob Fosse’s All That Jazz, which served as a biopic and ominous premonition of Fosse’s impending death from heart failure, and Michael Anderson’s Logan’s Run, a wonderfully terrible 1970’s sci-fi flick about a post-Apocalyptic society where everyone is killed off at the age of 30.
