Chen Dance Center
Celebrate the Lunar New Year - the Year of the Sheep - with a performance, refreshments and festive lanterns at Chen Dance Center's annual Lantern Dance Festival. The program will feature works by choreographers H.T. Chen and Remy Charlip, including the Charlip solo "Forget the Past," dedicated to Antony Tudor, created on and danced by special guest Lance Westergard. Charlip's delightful "Twelve Contra Dances" a cheery suite to music by Beethoven, will also be presented, staged by Westergard. By H.T. Chen are excerpts from his 1998 "Warriors of Light," an abstract journey evoking imagery of the human spirit as it seeks to attain enlightenment, and Chen's recent "South of Gold Mountain," a major dance/theater piece inspired by Chinese immigrants who came to the U.S. and settled in the South. At Chen Dance Center, 70 Mulberry Street, corner of Mulberry and Bayard in NY's Chinatown. Reservations at 212.239.0126
