Choreographer/writer Antonia Katrandjieva presents her Overground Physical Theatre Company in X-Stream, a "kinetic zoom" of dance, video and theatre that views the transience of the human experience through the lives of nine contemporary dancers living on the edge of uncertainty.   June 20-22 at 8 PM at St. Mark's Church, 131 East 10th Street.

The work presents the drama of eight  women and one man who download life wisdom through a voice activated messenger.   They are challenged to co-exist in a muted world, deprived temporarily of sensory perception, common ground and ecological sanity.   The characters are metaphorically rrequired to "exit, extract, excavate, expand, and exhale" in order to reset their natural balance.

The international aspect of the ensemble adds to the fascination -  9 performers, 9 native tongues, 9 dimensions, 9 lives unfolding under "X-treme" circumstances.   Working as a unit, in a spirit of joy and exploration, the artists have selected their favorite toys - an orange doll from Slovakia, a wolf from Russia, a teddy bear from Spain, a monkey and tower from Italy, a knit doll from Minnesota, a memory from Tibet, a coloring kit from Japan, and a toy house from Greece - a true celebration of colors, memories, intimate moments, and appreciation of our mutual humanness.

To create a vibrant radiance of light, color, movement, sound and image, Katrandjieva has assembled a remarkable and experienced team of artists:
*Ana Ivanova, video and filmmaker, a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism and Communications at Sofia University in Bulgaria with an M.A. in Communications;
*Kalin Ivanov, video artist and filmmaker, a three-time Emmy winner for producing in the categories of Environmental Program and Best Magazine Program; senior videographer, producer and editor at CUNY/TV since 2000; holds degrees in Cinematography from colleges in both Bulgaria and New York;
*Emilio Garzon, composer/mix engineer/sound designer - received first prize in the Singer-Songwriter Competition in Spain, composer for numerous movies, graduate of Middlesex University in London;
*Xana Villan Rueda, vocalist, studied in Geneva, Switzerland, England and Spain.   Based in NYC since 2010, she uses her musical skills in the fields of dance, fashion, photography and film;
*Marios Aristopolous, composer/sound design, from Athens, Greece, holds a Master's degree in Ethnomusicology from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London; has created soundtracks for theater, dance, documentaries, video games, and feature films.

Antonia Katrandjieva, a native of Bulgaria, is an internationally acclaimed scholar, director, writer and choreographers, exploring the realms of dance and theatre.    Her works are informed by her extensive studies: she holds a B.A. in Physical Theatre Acting, MFA in Theatre Directing, Ph.D. and D.Sc. in Theatre form the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, and is a graduate of Zurich Tanz Theater Schule in Switzerland.   Antonia has traveled, lectured and researched dance and theatre traaditions in Asia, South America, Europe and the U.S. and has presented over 40 cutting-edge works at dance and theatre festival across the globe.
