Opera Saratoga (Saratoga Springs, NY) is holding auditions for male and female dancers for the American Premiere of "The Witches of Venice," an opera-ballet by Philip Glass based on the children's book by Beni Montresor. "The Witches of Venice" received its world premiere at La Scala, Milan in 1995. Karole Armitage will be creating a new production of "The Witches of Venice" as part of the company's 2016 Summer Festival in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Rehearses May 19-26 at Mana Contemporary Art Center in Jersey City, NJ (PATH to Journal Square); travel to Saratoga Springs, NY on May 27; rehearses May 28-June 30 in Saratoga Springs, NY; runs July 2-17 (three performances) at Opera Saratoga.

Dance is at the center of "The Witches of Venice"; the dancers will be performing throughout the 75-minute opera-ballet in a variety of roles--as witches, the Queen of Venice, a Pigeon, the Wind, etc.--requiring highly-skilled dancers who are fluent in ballet, modern, and contemporary, for movement sequences that integrate rhythm with fluency in the whole body. In addition to performing and creating roles for the opera, the dancers will be asked to work with and coach the children who also appear in the opera.
