City Ballet of Boston (CBB) under the artistic direction of Tony Williams, presents “Summer Waltz,” a celebration of dance that showcases classical and contemporary pieces, featuring City Ballet of Boston’s professional dancers, guest dancers from Ballet RI, and up-and-coming talents from the Boston City Youth Ballet.

The performances include a rare ballet piece, Minkus Pas de Trois, choreographed by George Balanchine. The work was staged by Marina Eglevsky, acclaimed American ballet dancer, teacher, and coach, and daughter of ballet star Andre Eglevsky, who was in the original Minkus Pas de Trois in 1948.

The performances also include “Ben's Trumpet Suite,” based on the children’s story book, "Ben’s Trumpet", a Caldecott Honor Award book written by Rachel Isadora, Tony’s former Boston Ballet colleague and friend. The family-focused matinee performances feature a revival of “Peter and the Wolf,” adapted by Tony Williams with original choreography by Sam Kurkjian, mentor of Tony Williams during his time at Boston Ballet. Tony has refreshed “Belonging,” with music by Maurice Ravel, one of the first ballets he choreographed during his partnership with José Mateo at Ballet Theatre of Boston in 1986. Refreshing new choreography by Gianni Di Marco, Erika Lambe, and Nicole Volpe round out the performances.

The Saturday performances at 3pm and 8pm see the dancers joined by members of the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players performing live, conducted by their Music Director, Cynthia Woods.

As if that weren’t enough, two dancers from Guadeloupe perform alongside CBB professionals and youth performers, providing a special opportunity for cultural exchange and interaction. This vibrant, warm, and diverse production offers something for everyone.

The performances, at the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts (527 Tremont St., Boston), take place on Friday, June 9 at 8pm; Saturday, June 10 at 3pm & 8pm; and Sunday, June 11 at 3pm. Tickets are $30-$40 at https://www.bostontheatrescene.com/shows-and-events/summer-waltz/.
