Mystery pervades the world of Black Ground, a dance piece releasing its audience from real time.
Ardent August, Benn Rasmussen's recently re-named dance company, would like to invite you to the premiere of Black Ground at Dance New Amsterdam, running October 13th-16th, 2011. This show 'DUETspaceQUARTET' is a shared evening with choreographer, Joanna Kotze as a part of DNA's Splice programming.
Black Ground marks Benn's 5th work as a choreographer with this group, previously presenting at CAVE Arts Space, Dixon Place, RoofTop Dance Brooklyn, the Center for Performance Research, and nationally at venues in his home state of Wisconsin. The new piece takes inspiration from old family photographs, imbued with a Victorian era detachment and restraint. Yet,
Black Ground's characters strive for expression. Drama unravels with every calculated gesture in a world that simultaneously embraces and abandons decorum, virtuosity and a sense of self.
