Brooklyn, NY/May 14, 2014—Bryn Cohn + Artists present Into the Dark, an evening-length exploration into the unknown where fear meets rescue. Driven by risk, conflict and hope the company embarks on a journey of reckless personal abandon, as they confront the deep complexities and tensions of human realities and explore what it means to go Into the Dark

To create the piece’s unpredictable yet intimate environment, Cohn chose CPR as a space to inhabit and worked with a lighting designer, set designers, costume designer, and a composer to illuminate the mystery of their world. The themes of love and loss, recklessness and abandon are reflected in a transformative and continuously evolving scenic design; panels are used to create recognizable structures such as prisons, mazes, and confessionals to elucidate the tangible human emotions at the core of the piece. This supernatural fantasy world would not be complete without the textured expression of the costuming and styling details that add to the gritty yet delicate realities manifesting on the stage.
"This work is the most ambitious venture we have taken on, and by far the most rewarding," said artistic director Bryn Cohn, "Into the Darkmarks a tremendous milestone for us as a company—the unwavering honesty of the dancers, the dense movement vocabulary, and the collaborations have catapulted our company to a rich level of artistic progression. I am eternally grateful for these creative minds that have charged my vision with humanity, passion, and inspiration to build this comprehensive world onstage.”

ABOUT BRYN COHN + ARITSTS
Founded in 2011, Bryn Cohn + Artists is a New York-based dance company that constructs worlds of abstraction, reality and risk by investigating the edges of physical and imaginative boundaries. Their work integrates acute technical clarity within intricate physicality, deep insight from simple gestural idioms, and new methodologies as to how the body can speak in the most authentic of ways. Dynamic and rich vocabulary serves as a vehicle to recognize the person within the performer, and the intimacy that unfolds from a fierce commitment to a comprehensive emotional experience. Inspired by interdisciplinary practice, artistic director Bryn Cohn builds an orchestration of invention, rhythmic play and drama in the journeys she takes the audience on, encouraging us to question what we know and transports us to the places where we do not.
Bryn Cohn + Artists has presented at Merce Cunningham Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Judson Memorial Church, 92nd Street Y, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Dixon Place, Abrons Arts Center, Baruch Performing Arts Center, Manhattan Movement and Arts, Triskelion Arts, Peridance Capezio Theater and in collaboration with the contemporary art gallery Castle Fitzjohns on a site specific performance series. The company has performed in Reverb, WestFest, DanceNOW, Split Bill Series, Stuffed, Pentacle’s Fall Farther, Upstart, Underexposed, and Young Choreographers dance festivals.  Bryn Cohn + Artists recently toured to Seattle where they presented in Chop Shop: Bodies of Work and taught master class at Velocity Dance Center. Bryn Cohn + Artists is currently represented by Pentacle Danceworks Inc. in the Gallery.  The work been described as “innovative and intricate, one movement flows seamlessly into the next…” (Vox Magazine)  with “wonderful musicality and attention to detail.” (Colin Connor)
