ALETHEA PACE - A TRUTH LIES BETWEEN US

A truth lies between us is a movement exploration of ambiguity. Can we ask questions that stem from curiosity and wonder instead of obsession and unfulfillment? Can we open up to the possibility of more than one truth and look through a different set of eyes? Can we find solace in uncertainty?

JOYA POWELL/MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE DANCE COMPANY - SONG AND DANCE YOU (EXCERPT)​

Song and Dance You is MOPDC's provocative, no holds barred multidisciplinary performance in collaboration with musician Zoë Aqua, Playwright Amina Henry, and Song and Dance You workshop participants. The choreography looks to answer the question: what will it take for Black Lives to Matter to all people?

ISABELLA DIAZ - S/HE JUMPED, S/HE WAS PUSHED

This piece includes many elements that revolve around the theme of feeling forced. A fictional storyline of movement based on historical events of the Guatemalan and Tuskegee Syphillis Experiments, and Project Artichoke (a drug induced, mind control experiment); paralleled with topics of immigration, and personal feelings of being trapped or forced to live a certain way.

GIO KUSANAGI  - WHEEL OF AGONY, WHEEL OF PRAYER

This piece begins with a narrative presentation of the association among fear, hatred, and fighting, followed by a classical modern dance that symbolizes ‘lament’ and a martial arts dance that symbolizes battle out of anger against injustice, which results in failure. I am figuring out you and me. I want to be strangers at times; I want us to be close and far. I see human interactions. Nothing is defined. Yes, I can tell you that this piece reveals itself to be about love, lack of love, intimacy, relationships, human interactions between strangers and between lovers and between all of us.
