Gearing Up for a Job Search

Job Search

Where are you in your transition? This was the main topic during a workshop presented last year by Suzie Jary, CTFD Career Consultant. The focus was to assist dancers in identifying where they are starting from. If your answer is "gearing up for a job search," then read on for more resources, programs, and services that Career Transition For Dancers can offer you.

Fall is a busy hiring season, so now is the perfect time to schedule a free one-on-one career counseling appointment to review your dance or work resume, devise a job search strategy, and brush up on interview techniques!

There are over 300 transition links
on our website on topics ranging from job search to career assessment and resume writing. All of the links have been recommended by our career counselors. Video career conversations are also availalbe to stream online and include hot topics such as LinkedIn for Your Job Search, Job Search Over 40, and Interviewing 101.

Join the discussion online and share how you ramp up your job search on our LinkedIn group.

Affordable Artist Housing Survey

Are you a member of the visual or performing arts community in the New York/New Jersey region? Are you looking for or concerned about the availability of affordable housing?

There is still time to take this short survey conducted by the Actors Fund Housing Development Corporation: http://ow.ly/cksqS. The survey will close on September 14.

It only takes ten minutes and will help the AFHDC move forward with the development of affordable artists’ rental housing in Rahway and throughout northern New Jersey. Your responses are critical. They will assist in determining design, amenities and more!

SAG/AFTRA Music Video Agreement

On July 21, the SAG-AFTRA National Board unanimously approved a new agreement covering music videos. This is the first agreement of its kind with the major record labels to cover dancers and other performers on music videos.

The three-year agreement, between SAG-AFTRA and Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, EMI Music and The Walt Disney Co., was the first of its kind in the industry. It ensures that those who work on music videos have basic health and safety guarantees, minimum daily rates, and contributions to their retirement plans.

Who’s Covered?

- All performers engaged in a music video are covered by the agreement, including actors, announcers, dancers, models, narrators, singers and stunt performers.
- Choreographers and assistant choreographers are covered for purposes of health and retirement contributions only.
- This agreement does not include background performers or instrumental musicians. Read more
