About "History of Modern Dance: Movement in Context"
An experiential introduction to modern dance as a performing art, this class will explore how the fabric of dance is interwoven with social dance, political movements, cultural bias, and personal experience. Like all forms of art and expression, dance is created within social, political, and cultural context, and the historical developments of dance are tied as much to particular time periods as they are to masterful choreographers and performers. Through movement, discussion, and video viewings we will explore the ties of modern dance to ideas of modernism. We will focus on artistic developments of major modern dance innovators from the late 1800's to present day. Students will gain a broad understanding of modern dance within its historical context and explore their personal connection to body and expression.
There are still a few spots available for NJ SummerDance (NJSD)!
