Harrowing is a duet comprising seven distinct scenes and featuring multimedia projection. Deeply stirring, this dance performance poetically investigates the relationships we make and leave behind and conjures the effects of those emotional connections in one’s life and body. Evoking the dual meanings of the word “harrow” – both a noun designating an instrument used to turn over and smooth soil and a verb meaning to cause distress – Smith’s work deftly figures beauty and pitfalls of nostalgia and romance.
